SeaWorld Orlando will soon be home to Orlando’s tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster.  Mako is set to debut in Summer, 2016.  Dedicated to the ocean’s fastest shark specious, it will be the anchor attraction to an area at SeaWorld all about sharks.  Shark Encounter, a restaurant named Sharks Underwater Grill, and other educational experiences and shops will surround the coaster.

Just this week, the highest point of the roller coaster was installed.  Thrill seekers will be carried 200 feet into the sky before a sudden plunge.  Speeds will reach up to 73 mph!  Experience the feeling of weightlessness as you race through turns and hills.  We will certainly be fighting for a spot in the front of the line!

Christmas in Orlando is Fast Approaching

Christmas is now a week away!  Though we don’t have the cool weather and snow that many of our northern friends experience, there is plenty of cheer in Orlando.  Most of us will be spending the Holiday with family and friends at area attractions or nearby beaches.  Local weathermen are predicting temperature in the 80’s during Christmas!

The Magical Memories office will be open to the many guests who visit the Disney area during this special time.  If you are celebrating in Orlando this week, arrive early to the attractions and check for reservations at restaurants ahead of dinner.  Long lines and extended waits are guaranteed.  Walt Disney World, in particular, tends to sell out towards the early afternoon hours during Christmas time.

The Ever- Growing Allure of International Drive Orlando

The announcement this week that Skyplex has been approved to continue development is exciting news.  International Drive in Orlando continues to grow and evolve as a top destination for vacationing families and groups that frequent Central Florida.  New thrills are forever changing this landscape and pushing the limits.

The sky is clearly the limit when imaging how Skyplex will be received when the attraction surfaces in 2018.  Skyplex is to feature several must- do attractions all in one huge entertainment complex.  Records will be crushed with the World’s tallest roller coaster, Skyscraper, a complete vertical coaster at over 500 feet tall.  Skyfall is yet another thrill that will drop riders around 460 feet at a speed approaching 90 mph!

More attractions hosted by Skyplex will be the Skyfly zip line and a surfing park called Skysurf.  Surrounded by a lush, casual tropical atmosphere, Skysurf will be located 10 stories up from the ground and will feature man-made waves for every skill level.  Live entertainment, retail stores, and the World’s largest Perkins Family Restaurant will also be developed as part of this SkyPlaza within Skyplex.  An observation deck will allow views from over 530 feet above International Drive.

Skyplex greatly adds to the excitement that International Drive is well-known for.  I-Drive 360, which hosts the Orlando Eye observation wheel, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, and the Sea Life Aquarium just opened early this year, 2015.  This attraction also presents entertaining night life, premium shopping experiences, and great restaurants.  More impressive attractions are being planned for International Drive and will open every year.

The Magic of Celebration, Florida

The beautiful town of Celebration, Florida is a must-visit on your next Disney vacation.  It’s located just off HWY 192, near Walt Disney World.  When in Celebration, you instantly get the small- town feeling as you stroll amongst front porches, manicured lawns, and white picket fences.

Celebration was envisioned and originally developed in the 1990s by Walt Disney World.  Some of their offices are still located there.  More than 4,000 residential properties are sprawled out across Celebration.  Many visitors don’t realize that the town has its own schools, hospital, fire department, post office, and a gorgeous golf course.  The parks and nature trails are excellent for enjoying the outdoors.

All the fun and magic is located at the Celebration Town Center in the downtown area.  Great restaurants and charming shops surround lakefront.  Celebration hosts seasonal festivals that will add an extra spark to your Disney vacation.  Though Central Florida is not known for snow, special machines blow faux snow created by soap suds at select times during the winter months, especially around the Holidays.  It’s a real treat for visitors who are here for the warmer weather and sunshine.

Great Celebration Restaurants Recommended by Magical Memories Staff

Café D’ Antonio.   691 Front Streeet | Celeration, Florida  34747

The place to go for excellent Italian food.  It was specifically selected for the town of Celebration by Disney.  Choose from an impressive wine list to compliment your lunch or dinner.  Reserve your table ahead of time, as this restaurant fills up quickly and often.

Celebration Town Tavern.  721 Front Street | Celebration, Florida  34747

The Tavern is the perfect neighborhood spot for a lobster dinner, big- mouth burger, or traditional fish & chips.  It provides diners with an authentic New England atmosphere with a large menu to match.  This very much a family- friendly restaurant, but does provide a classic pub area and amazing beer menu with 99 different options to choose from.  An outside patio table is great for our warm Florida evenings, while the interior is very welcoming as well.

Columbia Restaurant.  649 Front Street | Celebration, Florida  34747

The award winning Columbia restaurant serves up authentic Cuban and Spanish dishes within an inviting old-world-style dining atmosphere.  Paella dinners here are amongst the best in Orlando!  Columbia’s menu is diverse and just too difficult to pick one entrée.  Salad is tossed right at the table and the Sangria is fabulous.  In fact, the Sangria is prepared tableside as well.  Remember to choose a souvenir at the Spanish shop before heading home.
